Alphabet Energy introduced its first product, E1. The thermoelectric generator attaches to an exhaust stack and uses Alphabet Energy’s thermoelectric materials to convert exhaust heat into electricity. Second Genome joined the Mayo Clinic Center for Individualized Medicine in a research collaboration to develop treatments for diseases such as colorectal cancer, IBD, and metabolic disorders, as announced in the San Francisco Business Times and GenomeWeb, among other news outlets.
WaterHealth International (WHI) raised $10M in venture funding from Vital Capital, which manages a $350M private equity fund. WHI provides water purification and disinfection systems in developing countries and has raised $25M to date from investors including Dow Chemical, Coca-Cola, Tata Capital, Sail Capital Partners, and International Finance Corp, among others. The Berkeley Lab startup has developed more than 500 clean drinking water systems serving over five million people in India and sub-Saharan Africa. Read more here.
