The smart window technology behind Heliotrope, featured recently in MIT Technology Review, made its lab-to-market move with a $100,000 Innovation Grant managed by the Innovation and Partnerships Office. Berkeley Lab researchers used the grant to fabricate a solid state prototype of their electrochromic window material, and the positive demonstration led to $1.2M in private seed funding and over $3M in grant funding for follow-on research conducted at the Lab. Heliotrope anticipates a 2017 launch for its products.
