APPLICATIONS OF TECHNOLOGY:
- Graphical user interface for geophysical modeling software programs
ADVANTAGES:
- Allows the building of complex 3D earth models
- Makes model importing straightforward and consistent between various modeling engines
- Easy data visualization
DESCRIPTION:
Berkeley Lab’s Geophysical Earth Model (GEM) software is a graphical user interface for various geophysical modeling programs. The program allows the building of complex 3D earth models containing a multiplicity of rock properties and it makes model importing straightforward and consistent between seismic, electromagnetic, and gravity modeling engines developed at Berkeley Lab and elsewhere.
With GEM, reservoir flow simulation models can be directly converted to geophysical models using user defined rock-properties models. Models can be built easily from well logs and 3D seismic surfaces by 3D guided interpolation.
GEM is written in MOTIF for Unix/Linux platforms and provides an interface for Berkeley Lab’s Electromagnetic Geological Mapper (EMGeo) Software, AnisWave 2D and 3D Seismic Wave Modeling Software, as well as other modeling programs.
