The Lab’s Chief Technology Transfer Officer Dr. Elsie Quaite-Randall participated on a panel with tech transfer coordinators from LLNL, SLAC, and Sandia at the Commission to Review the Effectiveness of the National Energy Laboratories (CRENEL) meeting held May 22 at SLAC.
As part of an industry partner panel, Dr. Charlie Hotz, Nanosys, Inc. VP of Research and Development, discussed the company’s experience licensing Berkeley Lab’s quantum dot portfolio and the subsequent successful development of its QDEF display, used in the Kindle Fire HDX7, Asus NX500 Notebook PC, and HDTVs now being demonstrated. Lab Director Paul Alivisatos and the directors of SLAC and LLNL fielded general questions from the commission at the day’s opening session. Now in its second phase, CRENEL is examining effective and efficient collaboration of DOE laboratories with industry to maximize the labs’ impact on the U. S. economy.
