Jeremy manages commercialization for the Biosciences Area and the Climate and Ecosystem Sciences Division of the Earth and Environmental Sciences Area.  Jeremy is motivated by taking research innovations out of the lab and into the real world where they can improve people’s lives.   Some of Jeremy’s favorite cases involve clever technological applications for basic research, disease treatment and prevention, and stewarding environmentally-sound technologies. Jeremy has domain knowledge in biotechnology, nuclear sciences, aerospace, and business consulting and startups. 

Before joining Berkeley Lab, Jeremy worked at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory as their commercialization manager for biosciences, nuclear sciences, environmental sciences, chemical catalysis, and chemical biosynthesis.  Prior to this, Jeremy worked in commercialization at East Carolina University, where he helped lead NSF I-Corps, managed university inventions, and assisted startup companies.  There, Jeremy was also named a 2019-2021 Susan Riley Keyes fellow with the Association of University Technology Managers.

Jeremy holds a doctorate in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where his academic achievements included publishing in Science: Robotics, a Department of Defense fellowship, a feature on National Public Radio, and teaching over 300 students.  While completing his doctorate, Jeremy earned a graduate certificate in technology commercialization from Kenan-Flagler Business School.  There, Jeremy led and participated in numerous startup teams. 

For his local and global community, Jeremy helped start a successful Kansas company that makes durable hemp fiber prosthetics for wounded warriors, directed the turnaround of a large North Carolina housing development, helped document the advent of public internet access in Cuba, helped grow Zambia’s main women’s hospital, and assisted indigenous peoples in Brazil and Colombia initiate ecotourism businesses.  Jeremy is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and plays rugby.  He very much looks forward to joining the cycling community in the Bay Area.
