CinderBio, founded by researchers Jill Fuss and Steven Yannone, licensed a Berkeley Lab enzymes technology for applications in the biofuels, paper and pulping, and cleaning industries. The biodegradable CinderBio solution operates at higher temperatures and more acidic conditions than available enzymes, achieving outcomes more efficiently and at a lower cost. Along the startup path, CinderBio’s business model earned a semi-finalist spot in the 2013 UC Berkeley bplan competition and placed third in the 2014 FLoW DOE National Clean Energy Business Plan competition.
