11.03.14 Berkeley Lab scientists Henrik Scheller and Dominique Loqué have launched a startup, Afingen, based on their technology to genetically enhance plants for a wide range of needs such as stronger construction lumber, drought-tolerant plants and more digestible forage crops, among many other applications. Given the immense possibilities for the technology, Afingen elected not to compete for exclusive licensing rights. In fact, paper and biomass company FuturaGene and tire manufacturer Bridgestone have already licensed the technology to improve their own processes and products. For the complete story, go here.
